Do I think convergence happened because of human or technology?

Before answering this question, let's take a look at what convergence means and how it happened.

What is convergence? It is a process of combining different types of medium into a new whole. Famous American Media Scholar Henry Jenkins believe that convergence is not the end result but instead a process in how media is now consumed and produced.

Convergence happened because of these two popular ideas; convergence is natural and will always occur as humanity finds better solutions, and technology has reached a point to where humans now are influenced.

If I have to choose whether human or technology caused convergence to happen, I have to choose technology. Let me explain.

As one of the five groups of convergence culture, technological convergence becomes a tendency in which technology changes as different technological systems evolve toward performing similar tasks. Its process happened so quickly that now one piece of technology is able to work on the same tasks that previously different devices would have to perform separately. An example of technological convergence is the Internet.


With technology, especially with how globalization makes it accessible for people as well as sustainable technologies, information revolution and the rise of the services economy. 
Advanced technology makes it easier to access information across different platforms. Traditional media tries to adapt themselves to the new technology by creating their content online instead of the traditional print. Getting the word out becomes easy thanks to social media sites like Twitter and Facebook in which people will respond their thoughts and reactions in a post.


Technology convergence pushes alliances between once isolated industries such as broadcasting, computing, and electronics. Some media experts state that the need of convergence all stemmed from advanced technology.
