"Some commentators have used the idea of the brain to explain to explore the workings of the internet. What other ways can you think of to explain how the internet works?"
We all know what the Internet is and what it is used for. Basically, the Internet is a place full of wonders and the possibilities are endless. To put it into technical terms, the Internet is a global network that connects to millions of computers, cables, routers, wifi, satellites and many more, allowing digital information to travel around the world. More than 190 countries are linked into exchanges of data, news, and opinions. We used the Internet for finding information, shopping online, watch videos, check our emails, listening to music and the list goes on. But do we know how the Internet works? Not like those technical things like the IPs and stuff but like, how do we compare the Internet with?
As it was mentioned in the question, people use their brains to understand parts of the Internet. It helps them to remember and access information quickly. When someone asks them about an important event, they use their brains to process information to get an answer. Another way to understanding the workings of the Internet is to compare with what we usually associate our minds with. I have come up with a few examples.
The Internet is like a train. Imagine you're looking for an answer to your question as information comes in to give you the answer you're looking for. Similarly, if you're waiting for the train to arrive at the pit stop so you can hop on the ride. But what happens if the train stopped in the middle of the track or it is out of service? We may not find all the answers to our questions but once the train arrives, our answers will be in it.
The second comparison is a puzzle.
Whether it is kid-size with a few pieces or a picture of a landscape with lots of pieces, these puzzles act as a piece of information forming into one big picture. That is when one of the puzzle pieces went missing or you couldn't find the last piece of the puzzle and you're frustrated to find it. These act as problems we needed to solve until you find the exact piece of the puzzle to complete the picture.
The last one to compare it with the workings of the Internet is a maze.
Imagine you're lost in a maze and you needed to get out of it. You first explore its surroundings and suddenly, you're lost in the middle of the maze and you forgot where to go next. This is the best way to describe the Internet. We would explore many things that interest us but once we get to the deep dark web, we can't go back. But if we know the way out, we plan our route and follow our instincts to get to the end of the maze, feeling relieved and satisfied.
In my opinion, I think the Internet is a strange but wonderful place to get lost in. These three examples I've mentioned perfectly describe my thoughts and feelings about this phenomenon called the Internet. It has its ups and downs, weirdness and uniqueness, cute and creepy but we love it the way it is.
