EP Review: A Weekend in Maine by Zealyn

For my first blog post, I wanted to review an EP that I have been anticipated since the beginning of the year. I've been a fan of this artist when she was on a singing reality show called American Idol. Her current name might not ring any bells unless you've watched season 12 in which she performed under her previous name, Angie Miller. You may recognize that name and singer when she sang an original song called You Set Me Free during the Hollywood Rounds which blew the judges, as well as everyone who watched the show including me, away. She was placed third but that didn't stop her from pursuing her music journey. In 2014, she released an EP called Weathered independently which, unfortunately, was no longer available on streaming platforms.

And then in 2015, what was once Angie Miller now became Zealyn. She's now making music under a new name with a new sound. Her previous sound was pop rock but now her new songs are more into the indie electronic alternative side. That is shown on her debut EP in 2016 called Limbic System, a 7 track masterpiece produced by Aaron Marsh of Copeland that showcased a different side of her. The songs are more experimental and ambient while keeping the familiarity of her voice and lyrics. And now after 3 years, Zealyn is back with her sophomore EP. So, what do I think of A Weekend in Maine?

About Me

Hello everyone and welcome to Yathirah's Music Reviews where I review music that I love and listen to! My name is Yasmin Athirah. I'm 23 years old. I may be shy and quiet in real life but I'm nice and friendly to talk to. I'm the only child in my family. I'm currently studying in International Graduate Studies (IGS) as I moved from Laksamana College of Business (LCB) to Brunei Darussalam Institute of Certified Public Accounts (BICPA) to this one. I went from being a business major to accounting to multimedia. I was in my first year, the first semester when I first started this blog but now I'm in my final year in my fifth semester.

Aside from music, my other interests are reading books, coloring, painting, playing video games, Sudoku, puzzles and fishing with my dad. My current interests include watching Korean and Thai Dramas as well as creating paper crafts.

Growing up, I loved listening to music whether it is from what's popular on the radio to exploring other genres. My top genres are pop, indie, alternative, hip hop and electronic.

This blog contains Album, Song and EP Reviews where I review those projects and give it a rating as well as other stuff like Sharing Titles where I compared two or more songs that share similar titles and I differentiate between those songs, Genre Exploration where I explore songs from genres that I'm not familiar with.

Being my first music blog, expect some amateur level writing. If there's something that I should improve on or if there is a mistake from my writing, leave a comment.

I hope you enjoyed reading these reviews and you might find your next favorite thing.
